Online A-Level Biology and Chemistry Tutor for UK Students

Meet your A-level Biology and Chemistry tutor

Dr Zoë Huggett, online A-level Biology and Chemistry tutor

I’m Dr Zoë Huggett, an independent online A-level Biology and Chemistry tutor. I provide friendly, one-to-one weekly tuition for Year 12 and Year 13 students across the UK.

I tutor AQA, OCR A and Edexcel Salters–Nuffield Biology, and AQA and OCR A Chemistry. Students can receive support with Biology, Chemistry or both subjects, with each lesson adapted to what they need most that week.

£40 per one-hour weekly lesson via Zoom.

PhD in Nutritional Sciences · More than 2,000 tutoring hours · Over six years’ experience · Enhanced DBS check · Member of The Tutors’ Association

Current availability for September 2026

I currently have three regular weekly spaces available:

  • Monday, 4:00–5:00pm
  • Wednesday, 5:10–6:10pm
  • Thursday, 4:00–5:00pm

These spaces are for UK-based students who can commit to weekly tuition during term time.

A-Level Biology tuition

I tutor AQA, OCR A and Edexcel Salters–Nuffield A-level Biology. Lessons can help you develop a secure understanding of difficult biological processes, connect ideas across different topics and become more confident applying your knowledge in unfamiliar contexts.

I use a virtual whiteboard and my own hand-drawn diagrams to break complex processes into manageable stages. We also work through exam questions so that you can recognise what a question is asking, select the relevant knowledge and express your answer precisely enough to gain the marks.

Whether you are struggling with a particular topic, finding the jump from GCSE difficult or aiming to refine your exam technique for a higher grade, lessons are planned around your individual needs.

A-Level Chemistry tuition

I tutor AQA and OCR A A-level Chemistry. Lessons can cover whichever areas you need help with, including calculations, practical techniques, definitions, mechanisms, unfamiliar data and applying chemical principles to exam questions.

My aim is to help you understand why a method works rather than simply memorising a sequence of steps. We can slow calculations or mechanisms down, identify exactly where confusion has arisen and then practise applying the idea until you are able to approach questions more independently.

Chemistry tuition is available on its own or alongside Biology tuition.

One tutor for Biology and Chemistry

Many of my students study both Biology and Chemistry. Having one tutor for both subjects gives us the flexibility to use each week’s lesson where it will be most useful.

We might alternate between the subjects, divide an hour between them or concentrate entirely on whichever subject has the most urgent topic, assessment or exam coming up. The student can tell me what they would most like to cover, and we can adjust the plan as their needs change throughout the year.

Some students choose to book two weekly hours where availability allows, but one flexible weekly lesson can also be used across both subjects.

What happens in a weekly lesson?

Lessons take place one-to-one over Zoom. You will need a laptop, desktop computer or tablet with a working camera and microphone.

Tutorials commonly include a combination of:

  • Clear explanations using a virtual whiteboard and hand-drawn diagrams
  • Revisiting content that did not make sense at school or college
  • Working through calculations, data or practical methods step by step
  • Past-paper questions and detailed discussion of mark-scheme requirements
  • Identifying why marks were lost and how to improve an answer
  • Optional questions to complete between lessons, with marking and feedback included

I will go at a pace that is comfortable for you and adapt the lesson as we go. You are always welcome to ask questions or say when something still does not make sense.

I’m friendly, relaxed and encouraging. As an introvert myself, I understand that one-to-one tuition can initially feel intimidating. My aim is to provide a supportive space where you can admit when you are unsure, build confidence and gradually become more independent.

Why choose me as your tutor?

I combine substantial one-to-one tutoring experience with an academic and practical background in science.

My qualifications, all from the University of Nottingham, are:

  • PhD in Nutritional Sciences
  • MRes in Biosciences
  • BSc in Animal Science

I have provided more than 2,000 hours of tuition over more than six years. I am also an individual member of The Tutors’ Association and hold a current enhanced DBS check.

Alongside tutoring, I work as a senior laboratory technician. My research background includes doctoral work on lipid metabolism in the liver, molecular biology and nutritional biochemistry, as well as research using computer-vision technology to track animal behaviour. I have practical experience of scientific techniques taught at A-level, including PCR and infrared spectroscopy, and I have contributed to published research papers.

Price and weekly commitment

One-to-one tuition costs £40 for a one-hour lesson from September 2026. This includes setting and marking questions between lessons if you would like them.

I only accept UK-based students who are able to commit to a regular weekly lesson during term time. I do not offer fortnightly or monthly arrangements. Occasional changes for exceptional circumstances, such as a school trip, are of course understandable.

Start with a free introductory chat

I offer a free introductory chat so that you can meet me, ask questions and decide whether I am the right tutor for you, without pressure or obligation. Students and parents are both welcome to get in touch.

When enquiring, please include:

  • The subject or subjects required
  • The exam board
  • Whether the student is in Year 12 or Year 13
  • Which of the currently available times would be preferred
